Although I have now been diving with the club for 16 years, I am also a retired Royal Naval Officer and ships diver. I joined the East Lincs Dive Club back in 2000 when it was known as the Skegness Sub-Aqua Club and have been there ever since. Diving, for me, is full of thrills and excitement as you delve deep into an unknown, alien world. Having dived in various locations including the Red Sea, Scapa Flow and the Mediterranian, I have had the enjoyment of researching various wrecks, diving through them and discovering many compartments full of cargo that will never reach its final destination.
My most memorable dive would be on a return journey during a dive in the Red Sea in which my buddy and I had a close encounter with an Oceanic White Tip Shark which had decided to circumanvigate us during our 6 metre safety stop on a line. Finally it has to be the camaraderie and universal language shared by divers throughout the world that makes diving a fulfilling and satisfying sport.
Pauline Chiverton-Simpson - Assistant Dive Instructor
BSAC Sports Diver, BSAC Assistant Dive Instructor
Before joining the East Linc Dive Club I did my first try dive back in 2002 whilst in Cyprus and hated it. I then, however, decided to give it another go in 2004 in Turkey from a large boat and then from there I started to learn to dive for several years. I originally obtained my PADI open water qualification at this point. After moving to Skegness in 2005 I joined the East Lincs Dive Club where I have experienced dives in Gildy, Stoney Cove and RIB dives off of the East Coast.
Although I do not dive these days, I have obtained my Assistant Dive Instructor grade and I often help out with teaching at the club where you can always find me. I originally started diving as I wanted to do something with a bit of adventure and to see new things. It was definitely one of the best things I ever did.
Ian Taylor - Advanced Diver / Assistant Dive Instructor / Boat Keeper
BSAC Advanced Diver, BSAC Assistant Dive Instructor
I first joined the club back in 2004 and have trained an met various people through this. Within the club I assist with teaching and my main role is Boat Keeper as I look after the club's RIB along with another member. Having done between 500 and 600 dives, I have experienced many things whilst diving with my favourite dives being Scapa Flow and Egypt. Diving for me is very relaxing and I enjoy the peace and quiet that diving provides me with. It is almost as though you are in your own little world whilst diving and I have a preference for diving wrecks for exploration.
